Nightclub Scoop: March 2007 Archives
This is a sneak peak of a new addition to gaysocialites.com's rundown called the Nightclub Forecast. We will list the upcoming gay events for New York, Miami and Los Angeles starting next weekend.
Here is the Nightclub Forecast for New York this weekend and beyond.
Saturday, Avalon Reopens
Saturday is expected to be a huge night for New York City nightlife. Avalon is reopening in Chelsea. John Blair, Alan Picus and Mistress Formika are dividing up the old church to deliver everything from pop to punk to hard house. Just about every gay nightclubber is expected to attend.
The all new Saturdays at Avalon will evidently bring the gays in two shifts. The doors open at 10pm to those 21 and over. Anyone over 18 can join the festivities after the bars close at 4am. For more information check out www.jblair.com or www.boiparty.com.
The All New Rush
If you're 18 and looking for a place to party before you're able to check out the Avalon mega party at 4am, then I invite you to join me just down the street at Rush (579 Sixth Ave @ 16th street, NYC). We've got a $10 cover at the door if you say you're "Charles' guest." We're having a good ole fashioned gay frat party to celebrate the release of the new gay movie, Boy Culture.
A Hot Mess is coming
Sunday nights in New York are also about to come alive once again. DJ Adam, Steve Sidewalk, Chris Ryan, Drew Zailen and Jason Preston (yes Marc Jacob's former boy toy) in association with the GaySocialites bring you Hot Mess Sundays at Porky's (55 w 21st Street @ 6th Ave) starting April 15th.
There's free admission all night, open bar from 10-11, no guest list door drama, supersoaker shots, go-go boys and girls, sexy bartenders and all your favorite songs blarring from the DJ trailor. Hosted by Mimi Imfurst, Epiphamy and Rainblo. It's guaranteed to be like spring break every weekend. 21+ only with proper ID.
There are also a lot of celebrity connections involved with the new Hot Mess party. On their straight nights, Porky's has play host to a ton of celebrities such as Vanilla Ice, Flavor Flav and Ashley Angel Parker. Steve Sidewalk, DJ Adam and Chris Ryan all work at Area Fridays where celebs like Deborah Harry, John Waters and Valeze frontwoman Tiffany Randol have been spotted rubbing elbows with the homos. The GaySocialites played host to Paris Hilton and Justin Timberlake for their release parties this summer at 49 Grove with appearances by many other celebrities like Elizabeth Berkley, Rachel Dratch and Jason Lillard. And of course, Jason Preston has been seen (on his myspace page) partying with such socialites as Lindsay Lohan, Mariah Carey and Axel Rose by way of Mark Jacobs. So you never can tell who might show up at this party. Remember this one starts on Sunday, April 15th.
Starting next week, GaySocialites.com will present the Nightclub Forecast for New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
Sorry, kiddies; but you won't get to take part in the grand opening of the all new Avalon Saturdays in New York City by John Blair, Alan Picus, Mistress Formika and a star-studded list of New York's gay nightclub elite.
GaySocialites.com has learned exclusively that Avalon will only be allowed to admit patrons 21 and older before 4am. After 4am, the doors will open to those over 18. Beyond the control of promoters many attempts, there won't be any patrons under 21 in the club while the bar is serving liquor.
The new plan for the minors: Here's your chance to check out the all new Rush at 16th and 6th! Come to Rush for $1 drinks until midnight with music by Steve Sidewalk, hosted by Miss Alixandria, Skyla Versai and the World's First Gay Socialite Charles Winters. This club at 579 Sixth Avenue is newly remodeled, and we're told that all three floors will be open this Saturday for the first time since being remodeled. It will be the perfect chance to check it out before heading to Avalon to check out the grand re-opening of the historic church-turned-nightclub.
You can email charles@gaysocialites.com for guest list information at either club.
Don't forget about tonight's party at Rush in NYC! Every Saturday night features music by Steve Sidewalk and a show hosted by yours truly!
Tonight we've got the cheapest drinks, the sexiest guys and the hottest music.
Come check out the newly remodeled club at 579 Sixth Avenue! Email charles@gaysocialites.com for guestlist.
ALSO -- Don't forget about the grand opening of the All New Avalon Saturdays one week from tonight (March 31). I'll be there AND at Rush every Saturday. You can even RSVP for both parties at the same time!! More details to come over the next week.
He is probably New York City's most famous DJ ever. Junior Vasquez, now 60 years old, has spun at every major gay NYC club throughout the decades. Now, the is hanging up his turn table.
It looks like Pride '07 will be Junior's last appearance.
Made famous by his after hours parties, Junior's last weekly residency was in 2003 at Exit which has since closed. He has however been spinning a lot of monthly parties over the past few years.
In a day when DJ's are spinning mainly on CDs and even on iPods, Junior's vinyl is becoming extinct.
Sources tell GaySocialites.com that Britney Spears will in fact be checking out rehab this week to attend her estranged husband Kevin Federline's birthday party.
"She has made it very clear that she intends on leaving the rehab so she can spend time with Kevin at his birthday party. She thinks that if she attends, it will show Kevin and the world that she still cares for him and will help her chances on getting her children back," a source quoted by Associated Content said.
Our souce tells us that those close to Britney are preparing for her trip home.
"Britney's friends and family are getting things ready for her arrival at home. That means no drinking, no heavy partying and lost of family time," according to our source.
This early departure to attend K-Fed's birthday party doesn't mean Britney and Kevin are getting back together. According to reports, Britney's plus one at the bash will be her new boyfriend, rocker Jason Filyaw.
"I talked to Kevin about Britney and he said he's not getting back together with Britney. At least not right now. He just wants to be a friend for her," according to one of Kevin's friends who spoke to US Weekly.
Just because she is checking out early, doesn't mean she hasn't healed. TMZ reports that the"Toxic" singer has also made one of the most amazing turnarounds in celebrity memory.
It has suddenly become popular in New York City to admit that you're a HOT MESS...
Steve Sidewalk and DJ Adam are teaming up to bring you a FREE party on Sunday nights. What? What? What? Yes, FREE!
Here's how it works: No cover and open bar from 10-11pm. You just have to show up and drink the free booze.
Here's what we know so far....

We told you we would have a big announcement on Monday that might change the gay New York nightlife forever. Here ya go!
GaySocialites.com is proud to announce that we are officially putting our effort and full support behind the all new Saturdays at Avalon in NYC.
For the past four years our editor has served as the emcee and host at Club Heaven in NYC (now called Rush). Effective March 31, the World's First Gay Socialite Charles Winters will also begin working at the legendary Avalon nightclub along with every other gay icon in New York City! Charles will work his magic at the Spider Club, a VIP club inside of Avalon that will exclusively be allowed to welcome any patrons above the age of 18.
With a rotating DJ line-up that includes Steve Sidewalk, Seth Gold, Vito Fun and Danny Enichi; drag queen hostesses Acid Betty and Kitty Litter along with the backing of Alan Picus (www.boiparty.com) and John Blair (www.jblair.com) then you can guarantee that the Spider Club at Avalon will be where all of the gaysocialites both young and old will be every Saturday night.
We'll still be involved at Rush, but we can't give you all off the news at one time now can we? Stay tuned. If you haven't checked it out yet, come by this Saturday. Both the first and the second floors have been remodeled. You're going to LOVE it!
To RSVP for Avalon now, email charles@gaysocialites.com!
What would you do if you got indicted on manslaughter charges? It's a tough question to answer, huh? Well Michael Oliver, the cop who got indicted for shooting 31 of the 50 shots at the New York City groom-to-be Sean Bell after his bachelor party, went out and partied like a rock star spending $4,200 on dinner at a New York City flashy resturant!
The New York Post is reporting that he wined and dined at the lavish hot spot Nello known for its high profile and celebrity clientelle. It's definitely a place where you to go to be seen.
Oliver had an hourlong dinner at 7 p.m. yesterday with four young hotties and the man who picked up the check, José Garcia, Oliver's friend from Spain.
The unmarried Oliver was particularly flirty with one foxy brunette, said sources inside the restaurant.
The paper also reports one of their sources saying that: 'throughout the grand-jury proceedings, Oliver was seen partying at Chelsea club Cain on West 27th Street. He was apparently dating one of the bar's hostesses.'
I guess you can't blame the guy for living ever day like it might be his last! He may be headed to prison.
We have a huge announcement coming on Monday that will change the way you look at New York nightlife, and it is guaranteed to change your social calendar if you live in New York City or visit here often.
I can't say too much now, but it's going to be AMAZING!!! It's basically a whole new beginning and something you're going to be very excited about too!
Make sure you check back on Monday to see how GaySocialites.com is helping resculp the NYC gay nightlife scene.
I'm so excited I could spit!
This is what happens when New York City's gay nightclub forces collide and join together. John Blair, Mistress Formika Jones and Alan Picus are joining forces to bring Avalon back as a nightclub.
Saturday nights in New York City clubbing is about to make a drastic change. Roxy had its last dance on Saturday closing the doors forever, but what happened at Rush (formerly known as Heaven)? The place was packed! This was simply foreshadowing of a new Saturday night alliance in New York City.
Starting March 31st, Avalon will bring together John Blair's Chelsea muscle boys, Formika's freaks and misfits with Alan Picus' twinks and party boys for the New Saturdays at Avalon. Can NYC handle it?
John Blair will take charge of the Main Floor, Formika will introduce the Strip Tease Chapel and Alan Picus will present Scandal in the Spiderclub.
Can I get an amen? I have pushed for major change for years, and this is exactly what I have been talking about. This superdome style party will put everything under one roof! One cover, one HUGE fuckin' party!!
Get ready, because this is only one of the many major changes you'll see this spring in the nightclub scene. All I can say now, is get ready to see gay socialites in places where you have never seen gay socialites before!
James St. James paved the way for people like me to have a weekly show at a nightclub. Okay, so that was some Shameless Self Promotion, but it is a good opportunity to invite you to check out my show any Saturday night a Rush in NYC... but I digress.
James St. James was one of the leaders in the 'club kid' era in New York City, and yes - he's the same guy who was a guest judge on America's Next Top Model and a regular guest on the Tyra Banks show. He's also the guy who was played by Seth Green in the movie Party Monster based on his book Disco Bloodbath. Ok, fine he's the former friend of the killing club kid, Michael Alig.
As if a few appearances along side Tyra and ruling the NYC nightclub scene wasn't enough - now James St. James is lending a helping hand to teen drag queens. Who else to hear it from than the head queen -- Micheal Musto. You'll love it trust me.
I would totally review it myself, but I'm not really big on reading. Maybe when I'm his age? JUST KIDDING... I love James St. James. Werk it out girl!
It's very rare that you get to see a new nightclub as it is constructed, but the new owners of the building at 579 Sixth Avenue in New York City are offering the opportunity to see the space as it is being remodeled.
The club formerly known as Heaven is undergoing an 8-week renovation process that will shock even the most skeptical patron.
The new owners and management started by changing the name of the club to Rush, and they will continue by rebuilding the entire facility right before your eyes.
On Saturday night, Manhattan's only '18 and over' club will open its doors to Chelsea's finest so they can get a sneak peak at what is happening, and you're invited!
Why would a club try so hard to prove that their renovations are happening? Previous owners of the space have advertised 'remodeling' that simply turned into a few coats of paint and some disco ball stickers on some 10-year old mirrors.
Promoter Alan Picus tells me that the new changes will blow your mind! Rush will open its doors tonight at 10pm with $1 drinks until midnight. Later in the night, the World's First Gay Socialite Charles Winters (that's me) will roll in with Kitty Litter and Skyla Versai to host our own version of "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" Steve Sidewalk will spin his infamous pop party to break-in the new facility.
I'm told the first floor is completely remodeled, and you'll be shocked the second you walk in the door. Come check it out, just tell the door person that you're on 'Charles Winters' list for reduced admission prices all night long.
Rush is located at 579 Sixth Avenue at 16th Street in New York City.
If you're in New York City, you've gotta check out this Britney Spears "Rehab" party at Splash on Thursday for the Campus party.
The Britney Spears "Rehab" party might be a big gay bash, but it is also a great place to drag the fag hag. The interesting twist is that if you have a shaved head or if you show up dressed in Britney Spears fanwear, then you get in free and you get a free drink from the bar once you're inside.
This one's 21+ for the time being, but insiders tell me this won't last long. Meanwhile, some of the younger guys who work with the promoter behind all this, Alan Picus, have set-up shop at the old Heaven location, now known as Rush. Known as the 'Frat Pack,' these guys offer a close by alternative for the Freshmen while upperclassmen party across the street at Splash. It's an interesting mix.
At club Rush, you've got DJ Adam (Area, Boysroom, Dirty Boy) while Mikey Rave and Steve Sidewalk headline at club Splash.
Can a block boi party really work? If anyone call pull it off, it's probably Picus.
