Breaking Nightclub News: Avalon Saturdays go 21 and over!
Sorry, kiddies; but you won't get to take part in the grand opening of the all new Avalon Saturdays in New York City by John Blair, Alan Picus, Mistress Formika and a star-studded list of New York's gay nightclub elite.
GaySocialites.com has learned exclusively that Avalon will only be allowed to admit patrons 21 and older before 4am. After 4am, the doors will open to those over 18. Beyond the control of promoters many attempts, there won't be any patrons under 21 in the club while the bar is serving liquor.
The new plan for the minors: Here's your chance to check out the all new Rush at 16th and 6th! Come to Rush for $1 drinks until midnight with music by Steve Sidewalk, hosted by Miss Alixandria, Skyla Versai and the World's First Gay Socialite Charles Winters. This club at 579 Sixth Avenue is newly remodeled, and we're told that all three floors will be open this Saturday for the first time since being remodeled. It will be the perfect chance to check it out before heading to Avalon to check out the grand re-opening of the historic church-turned-nightclub.
You can email charles@gaysocialites.com for guest list information at either club.

Thats some serious bull**** because I found out that all of avalons str8 parties are either 18 or 19 and older, and now the gay night is 21+,thats a conspiracy,New York nightlife sucks at this point, people cant go out without dipstick politicians puttin their nasty greazy paws on our nightlife, the owner of avalon is no better if he allows str8 parties to be 18+ and discriminate against gays and have the party at 21+
Maybe I am flying over the handle bars and jumping to conclusions, but something aint right about this nonsense.
Amen to that! I told my friend,we should just make plans to go to canada,at least up there you're treated like an adult when you are 18,they dont just say you're an adult, and then treat you unequally like they do in here the states.Hell the drinking age is 18 in canada, and it ranges between 16-19 in other nations around the world, the US is the only screwed up country which has it set way to high at 21,even doctors think the drinking age is to high here.
Ha ha ha ha! You guys need to get over it. We all had to wait until we were 21 and you should too. As much as you don't want to believe this now, you have a lot of growing up to do. It is not going to kill you guys to stay home for a few more years.
Oh and Kyle - not all doctors think the drinking age is too high. This doctor doesn't think anyone should drink at all, as most doctors should.
DR.Will looks like you have it twisted, you have alot more growing up to do,than I do
The promoters and club owners, dont agree with you on that just so you know,so dont be so ignorant, maybe you need to stop and take a long hard look at your life "doctor" Will You dont know me so how dare you tell me I have alot of growing up to do.
There was originally going to be an 18+ "room" that didn't even serve liquor, and anyone 18-20 wouldn't be allowed to leave that particular room. The promoters and club felt like that would be too much like a daycare and decided to make it all 21+. Avalon is under STRICT surveillance right now by the city and John Blair doesn't wanna f*ck up.
FOR NOW it's 21+, but once things settle down a bit, they want to make it 18+. So just hold out for a bit :)
Thanks Bob... we have heard that before!
This is a controversial issue. I feel it is a CRIME that the drinking age is NOT 18+ (like our parents had). If this country feels the need to make drinking 21 + then the DRAFT (which is for MEN only - and dont get me started on that) must be the same restriction. Of course we are gay so the army wouldn't take us however in the time of a "draft" they would. The gay excuse wouldn't work, because no one wants to be drafted and everyone will use it.
I read a sad story about how the 18 to 20 year olds in IRAQ arent allowed to drink even when they know there days could be numbered.
If you feel that 18+ can not handle alcohol then let's increase our education of alcohol and it's effects at schools, on media outlets, ect. And enforce STRICTER laws for violating these rights. Maybe make it a law that anyone "drinking & driving" will be arrested and serve jail time. That would really make ANYONE rethink about drinking and driving. But also people need to know if theyre drunk and I think breathalizers in cars should be much more encouraged.
In Europe and Canada - the drinking age isnt a problem. American always likes to restrict things and I think it makes things worse.
People need to get over it. If underage people didn't sneak drinks and become obvious messes, these rules wouldn't have to be put into play. Grow up, and then maybe you'll be allowed to play with the big boys.
yes steve sidewalk and there are some of you guys who would allow pre-teens into the clubs too. oh wait some of you guys already do that. get over it.
21 and over my ass!!!Ever since Roxy went down things have not been the same,I started going to Roxy when I was 18 (2 yrs ago)I also went to Spirit,Splash on Thursdays,(Area 10018) at club Speed,Detention at Stonewall, and even Crobar every once and awhile on a friday, each of these places were 18+ to enter 21+ to drink,I am now 20 years old and could barely find one place to scratch my ass (so to speak) I went to all these places and did (NOT) drink underage,so maybe you older guys need to grow up and realize not everyone who goes out is exactly 18 and not everyone under 21 drinks "underage" older people in clubs are more of the problem anyway with constant use of extacsy and all that nonsense, what amazes me is at the age of 20 I rented an apartment with a friend I work and go to college Mon-Fri,I earned saturday nites out, besides according to the email I recieved from John Blair personally,he does not agree with the 21 and over BS,but its beyond his control, maybe you older dudes should think about that!!!!
Also for the ignorant and uneducated 20 and 30 somethings, you do not have a place in telling anybody to grow up,I have met a few of people in their mid to late 20s and they still live with their freakin parents I am 20 and share an apartment with my best friend, remember age aint nuttin but a number,I have seen plenty of older guys acting totally stupid in clubs as if they arent house broken,so you guys are not fit to judge,I dont care how old you are and how superior you think you are to younger people.Period!!!
"Shawn"
I have never once allowed someone under 18 into an 18+ party. I can't speak for the promoters tho. I just think a lot of people when they get older forget what its like to be that age and gay. I certainly remember being 18 and happy to be able to go out to places like Kurfew. If I had to wait till I was 21... my life would be dramatically different and suck. As bad as clubs can be, they can also be a great social environment. I have met some of my closest friends from the club scene. And I went to every gay and lesbian youth meeting possible and those were crap. Nothing but gay nerds wearing rainbows all over their bodies. The club scene was definitely more down to earth.
Ok Shawn was the previous poster and not the one directing the comment towards me. Of course it was an "anonymous" poster as it always is. Probably Charles. lol

Just think because of all the 21+ bullshit these clubs have been pulling in the city the last couple of gay parties struggled to survive and both failed.Though Avalon is willing to be 18+ on a str8 night, they purposely fucked it up so the gay party would not continue on saturdays. The party ended right after pride 2007.I expected that to happen,21+ does not mix well in the gay nightlife scene, sure its good for the cheezy bars that the old queens go to,to get busted and find some guy who will play easy and sleep with them, but in terms of large clubs and dance parties it does not work.In most of NYC gay club history all of the successful parties were 18 and over to enter while still being 21+ to drink alcohol. The type of ignorance that comes from some of the unhappy insecure homos in this community is self-explanatory as to why there is NO gay night-life left in the city. The 21+ bullshit just added fuel to the fire. For example, because Krash Freaky Fridays was 21+ the promoter told me he was barely getting over 300 people,if his party was at a better club and was located in the heart of chelsea,he would have gotten 1,000 or more every Friday, just as he did at club deep.John Blair's Saturday party got fucked up,because at the last minute the fish-brain management decided to fuck with what was suppose to have been the most exciting gay party in the city during post Roxy period, because of that, the spider club room ended a month after the party began. Also, there are alot of young 20 somethings who have 19 and 20 year old friends that they do hit the clubs with, considering they could not go with thier friends maybe they didnt go either, that also might have played a role in the gradual drop in the crowd. The first few weeks the party was in operation it was packed from wall to wall. The fact that Avalon's management allow the promoters to move the party to 18+ is probably the main reason why the party failed, plus alot of gays do not like avalon,I am one of them.So instead of being the ignorant uneducated Fags that you are, look for the facts and find things out.2007 turned out to be a horrible year for the gay nightlife scene and Roxy's closing played a big role in the demise of gay NYC nightlife.Since its almost the new year, lets just hope 2008 turns out to be a better year and we see a new big-room gay party that caters to the real gay scene and is based on DJs within the gay scene and it should be 18 and over to enter, without any argument or debate.Peter Rauhofer's Work at 555 west 33rd would not count for shit considering that it barely gets any gay scene DJs its 21+ and half the crowd is str8.So in reality we have NOTHING.just a bunch of cheezy bars in the area.We need clubs like Roxy and Spirit.Considering those clubs arent around anymore,we should see a new one or 2 that is willing to serve the gay community without any of the in-between bullshit, like what we received from Avalon.Nuff said about that!!!
