The top 9 American Idol contestants will be mentored by Tony Bennett this week, but the big question is can Sanjaya survive?
Melinda Doolittle, Gina Glocksen, Haley Scarnato, Phil Stacey, Lakisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Jordin Sparks and Sanjaya Malakar will battle it out under the influence of the 80 year old legend, Tony Bennett.
Lakisha and Melinda have really been knocking out of the park. Chris Richardson thinks he is Justin Timberlake, and Sanjaya Malakar is in his own universe.
Each week Sanjaya manages to squeek through without even landing as one of the lowest vote- getters. This is due in part to some deaf tone teenagers who think he is "cool" combined with pedophiles who dig the adrogonous type and coupled with people who are voting for him as a part of the "vote for the worst" campaign. That's the formula to keep a non-singer around for this long, no matter what the judges say.
Others, like myself, believe he is ruining the competition. One myspacer even started a hunger strike that she had to break, because Sanjaya still hasn't been voted off!!
It will be interesting to see what Sanjaya will pull out of his ass this week. I still hope he does drag. If dresses up like a woman and sings a Tony Bennett song, I'll shave my head Britney Spears style.
Sanjaya Malakar is my least favorite person to ever compete on American Idol, there I said it! But I may have this whole competition wrong. Maybe it isn't just about being the best singer anymore.
In the past American Idol judges and execs have looked for a good singer who they could teach to be a star. It has definitely worked with Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Fantasia Barrino. They haven't been as successful at making Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard household names beyond Idol.
Maybe this year, Idol executives will have to try something new. If Sanjaya Malakar wins this competition, then they will get to take someone who already has star power and make people think he can sing. But that may not be a problem.
"He has a charm about him that is key to being a pop star," Stuart Meyer of Sub Pop Records told TMZ. "Some of the biggest pop stars, like Madonna and Britney, aren't exactly the best singers."
I just hope he doesn't forget about the websites and radio shows who are trying to get people to vote for Sanjaya as a joke.
Tuesday night Sanjaya Malakar and eight other people who can actually sing (Melinda Doolittle, Gina Glocksen, Haley Scarnato, Phil Stacey, Lakisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks) will perform live on Tuesday night at 8pm on Fox to the songs of Tony Bennett.
While Sanjaya Malakar should have been voted off of American Idol way before Chris Sligh, it seems that Chris isn't bowing out gracefully.
Sligh was voted off of Tuesday nights show, but he isn't walking away with nothing. As a top 10 competitor, Chris secured his spot on the Idol tour. As he tells his hometown newspaper, Greenville, S.C. News, that's all he wanted anyway.
"I never came into this wanting to win it. I made the Top Ten. That was my goal," says the curly haired Sligh.
Chris also says he was told if he dropped out of the Top 10, then he couldn't go on tour... so he stayed around until America dumped him.
Let's just hope Sanjaya gets the axe this week.
Sanjaya Malakar has claimed his spot on Fox's hit reality singing competition American Idol. No, Sanjaya isn't the best singer. As a matter of fact, he's probably the worst. Instead Sanjaya is the comic relief. He has become the laughing stock for American Idol fans and foes nation wide.
Howard Stern is encouraging his listeners to vote for him, and a the website www.votefortheworst.com is pushing for people to keep him around as "the worst." News source Reuters has even questioned the credibility of his run.
My question is... how could anyone think that Sanjaya is straight? I have been beat to death with comments left here on this site about how mean I am being to Sanjaya. I don't think I am being mean. I think I am raising good questions and being brutally honest.
He may not be a good singer, but he's got a fantastic full head of hair on him. He has curled it up, flat ironed it, faux hawked it... he is not afraid to take hair risks. The stylist on the show even commented on how much Sanjaya loved having his hair done. He's living his dream of having a full-time hair stylist! That's super! Meanwhile, he keeps moving up in the competition.
I know, I know... it seems like all signs are already point to gay, but wait... there's more:
When Idol judge Simon Cowell knocked on his hair, he totally queened out. Sanjaya did a cute little faggy head tilt and said, "you're just mad you couldn't pull it off Simon." Work it out girl!
Since we're not ones to pull people out of the closet, lets just say that Sanjaya may not be gay, but he sure is queeny.
After last night's big shocker on American Idol, Sanjaya Malakar will get on my nerves for at least one more week.
I'm not too surprised that Chris Sligh was voted off, but I am shocked that Sanjaya is staying around. I think he should just quit the competition.
Sanjaya does actually have a chance of stealing the American Idol title, but surely he doesn't want to win something this prestigious as a joke.
We can thank dedicated listeners to Howard Stern's radio show, the bloggers at the Vote for the Worst website and the few Fanjayas (Sanjaya fans) who are burning up the phone lines to keep him around.
This isn't the right competition for him, and this point he not only disgusts me -- but I am really starting to feel sorry for him. Surely his friends and family know this is turning into one big joke that will only make Sanjaya look like a fool in the end. I can't imagine that these people who are making a joke of Idol by voting for him will actually buy his records (if he makes it that far). I'm sure Clive Davis will die before he hands him a record deal anyway. How will American Idol handle this big prank? Again, Sanjaya should save them the trouble and drop out.
Someone close to Sanjaya needs to tell him that he should just quit. It would make it easier on him in the long run, I'm sure of it.
Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and America's Next Top Model all sent someone home this week. If you missed them, here's a quick recap of who got kicked off what this week!
Dancing with the Stars:
After Tuesday nights results show, two teams were tied for last place with 34 points. Clyde Drexler and partner Elena Grinenko tied with Karina Smirnoff and Billy Ray Cyrus. But that didn't seem to matter when you put their confusing point system into play. As a result, Paulina Porizkova and her partner Alec Mazo, who was the champion of the first season of Dancing With the Stars, were given the boot.
Heather Mills seems to be the star power of the show without even really being much of a US celebrity. She pulled some daring moves this week, as betting websites continue to wager on whether or not her prosthetic leg will fly off.
America's Next Top Model:
Today's the models-in-the-making were challenged to look like men. They were each given a male persona and drag queen and told to work it. Some of them looked convincingly like men. Jaslene even looked like a hot straight dude. It was mind bending.
In the end, the two "full figured" models were left in the bottom two. Tyra decided to let Whitney stay sending Diana home. Natasha seemed to finish on top, because her photo got pulled first.
At the sidebar: Tyra actually looked good tonight. She didn't have on fifteen wigs, instead she had a cute conservative bun in the back. She did have some drag queenish eye lashes on, but she realizes it making it perfectly fine by me. Later in the show she even said drag queens watch her to figure out how to act like a woman. She may be self righteous, but at least she knows where she fits into things.
American Idol:
As I told you earlier, Sanjaya Malakar didn't get voted off. He wasn't even in the bottom three. Instead Chris Sligh, Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey got the least amount of votes. In the end Chris Sligh said good-bye.
The elimination show also featured a performance of "The Sweet Escape" by Gwen Stefani and Akron.
Another week with Sanjaya Malakar on American Idol... I am in shock!?#! I have a feeling it was the hair. He is creative, but he can't sing. Not only has he made it to the top 9, but he wasn't even in the bottom three.
Is this kid a publicity genius or something? His tacky faux hawk from Tuesday night's show has drawn tons of media attention. Ryan Seacrest even referenced it during the show's intro, and when then he appeared on stage wearing a faux hawk wig.
Whether people are voting for him as a joke or because they are seriously Fanjaya's, he's got some star power. I guess he'll have to figure out another celebrity profession though, because he surely won't make it as a singer.
Ok, a little more American Idol before the results are announced Wednesday night...
I was looking at the playback of last night's show, and someone really needs to tell Chris Richardson that he is not Justin Timberlake. In Tuesday night's show, Chris performed No Doubt's "Don't Speak" with a Justin Timberlake twist. Not only did he try his best to sound like JT, but he wore something that looked like it was out of Justin Timberlake's closet. Chris, of course, wore a much baggier version since he doesn't have a hot body like Timberlake.
Here's the video incase you missed it...
Clothes look familiar?
Chris is not that bad of a singer. He isn't as good as Lakisha Jones, but he isn't nearly as bad as Sanjaya Malakar. Chris just definitely needs to find his own personality and feel, because JT already brought Sexy Back... we don't need a plump clone to try and do it again.

Last night was the first time that the remaining American Idol contestants took the stage as the Top 10! Knowing they were at least secured a spot on the Idol tour, the contestants sang songs from the Ms. Gwen Stefani. (Running out of themes are we Idol?) They didn't have to sing songs that Stefani had released as they could also pick from her inspirations such as (Donna Summer, The Police, Cyndi Lauper, and The Cure).
Lakisha Jones was by far the best singer of the night. She brought down the house performing Last Dance by Donna Summer. Gwen called it soft and sexy, and the judges loved it. I would be completely shocked if Lakisha got voted off. However, I wouldn't be shocked if she won the whole competition.
Take a look at Lakisha's performance from Tuesday night:
The best moment of the night had nothing to do with the singing. Sanjaya Malakar proved that he does have a purpose on the show. Sanjaya has become American Idol's comic relief. The 'andogonous one' showed up with a faux hawk. He looked as happy as a little girl playing dress up in mommy's clothing. It was horrible! It was so bad that it was almost enjoyable. Sanjaya will likely NOT get voted off, however he had the worst performance of the night. As Simon Cowell said on Tuesday night's show, it doesn't really matter what the judges say anymore. Sanjaya is in his own universe.
Take a look this video from Tuesday's show:
I mean seriously people, I have heard drunken frat boys sing better at 5 am just before puking on the lawn. He forgot the freakin' words, and this is video from someone performing as one of the top 10 singers. It just doesn't make sense to me!
I think it's sad that he is getting so many votes because people are "voting for the worst" as a joke. Surprisingly, he has some die hard fans (most of which hate me with a passion); but there can't be enough people who actually call themselves Fanjayas to keep this kid on the show.
GaySocialites.com still extends its offer for Sanjaya to come out on our site exclusively. Is there any better place?
The results show for American Idol airs Wednesday night at 9pm EST on Fox.
Finally Sanjaya Malakar delivers something worth watching on American Idol. No, he still can't sing; but he is sure as hell making us laugh (at him)!!
I have been saying if he is going to stick around despite his inability to sing, then he needed to do something so absurdly ridiculous that it becomes entertainment.
Tonight, Sanjaya did just that! The tone-deaf Idol wanna-be showed up tonight with a HUGE faux-hawk! His song still sucked. Ryan Seacrest, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell all shared a good laugh at the androgonous ones expense; but then again so did everyone else!
He has no musical ability! If he wins this competition he will take all credibilty that American Idol holds, but at least he is entertaining us now... despite the fact that it is just another reason for us to laugh at him.
Next week, I wanna see Sanjaya in drag! Think he will do it?!
