General Peter Pace, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, says he regrets saying that homosexuality was "immoral" saying his remarks reflected only his personal opinion.

General Pace started the controversy by telling the Chicago Tribune that the military should not condone immoral acts, such as homosexual relations.  However, he still really hasn't apologized.

"I believe that homosexual acts between individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts," Gen. Pace said in an interview.

His remarks sparked protest from a diverse array of people, including gay activists, democrats, and a senior republican senator.

Robert Gates, defense secretary, commented:

"I think personal opinion really doesn't have a place here. What's important is that we have a...statute that governs 'don't ask, don't tell'. That's the policy of this department and it's my responsibility to execute that policy as effectively as we can. As long as the law is what it is, that's what we'll do."

The Service members Legal Defense Network, a group that supports lifting the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy, said Gen. Pace's comments were "outrageous, insensitive and disrespectful to the 65,000 lesbian and gay troops serving in our armed forces".

Why do you automatically attack and call someone "stupid" when they have a different opinion than you do? That is childish and immature behavior. Mature adults recognize that people have different opinions and in America you are free to express those opinions. In some other countries, you might be killed for expressing them, especially when your opinions go against the laws of the land.

Why are his comments so offensive? Is it because his comments awaken your conscience? What are the basis for your morals—"If it feels good, do it"? Morality is not decided by individuals or even governments, but by God. You can choose to go against God's morality, but you will have to deal with the consequences. This applies to every area, not just sexual preference. If one were to choose to lie, or be promiscuous, or commit adultery, there are consequences. Additionally, some of those are against the law. We have a law for our military and General Pace is enforcing that law. If you don't like the law, then you can try to get it changed, although changing the law doesn't change whether the act is moral or immoral, only whether it is legal or illegal. We have all been immoral at one time or another. In doing so, we have offended God. Just as you and others are calling for General Pace to be truly sorry for what he said and expect him not to do it again, God is calling for everyone to be truly sorry for what they have said and done against Him and to stop doing it. That is called repentance. God is calling all people everywhere to repentance. He has set before us blessings and curses and calls for us to choose. What choice will you make?
