John Edwards campaign goes on despite return of wife's cancer
Many expected democratic presidential candidate John Edwards to withdraw from the race or at least put things on hold today as he and his wife Elizabeth announced that her cancer had returned. However, the couple held a press conference today where they said her cancer is treatable and that John Edwards bid for president continues as planned. “The campaign goes on. The campaign goes on strongly,” Edwards, a former U.S. senator from North Carolina and the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee, said at a news conference in his hometown. “We are very optimistic about this,” Edwards said. Edwards ran an unsuccessful bid for the democratic primary in 2004, but he later joined the democratic ticket as John Kerry's running mate. He is currently ranking fourth in the democratic polls behind Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barak Obama and Al Gore.
Elizabeth pointed out that she feels and appears healthy. She said she knew that her husband was running for president for the right reasons. She also said she knew he would drop out of it was needed, but it is not.
