Gwen Stefani is next week's American Idol mentor

Here's a sure fire way for American Idol to get a leg up (pun intended) on Dancing with the Stars:  bring on a pop superstar!

Next week's celebrity mentor on Fox's American Idol will be No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani.  Stefani will be the first mentor to work with the Top 10 contestants as Fox tries to beat ABC in the reality competition war.

Each week, the contestants are coached by a singer or group.  Most of the 'mentors' have a tendency to be older and more tradition, but next week the contestants will go where previous contestants have not - Walking in the Spiderwebs.

Next week's will be a pop-themed week, as contestants pick their favorite songs from that genre.  Stefani will mentor the contestants on how to best execute the pop song they choose. 

I can't wait to see which Cher, Madonna or Mariah Carey song Sanjaya will pick!  You know the femme (possibly gay) boy is gonna sing a diva's song!!
