American Idol: Sanjaya stays, Stephanie goes
It looks like this year's American Idol competition may be another one of those popularity contests where a large group of bored housewives and strange little girls call in to vote for the boy who they find themselves oddly attracted to.
On last night's Idol, as I predicted, the worst singer wasn't even in the bottom three. Sanjaya Malakar gets to stay while Stephanie Edwards gets the boot.
Don't get me wrong, there is no way that Stephanie could have won the competition, but she is a much better singer than Sanjaya. (But then again, just about everyone in the world is a better singer than Sanjaya).
I don't mean to be attacking this kid personally, and I hope it doesn't come across like that. I'm sure he is a nice enough kid. However, this isn't an American Idol contest that looks for America's nicest person. This is a singing competition, and Sanjaya just can't sing.
Either way, America gets to choose the winner. If they choose Sanjaya, then I'll have to reconsider moving to London.
If nothing else, maybe Sanjaya will 'find himself' during this competition. Maybe he will come out of the closet exclusively to GaySocialites.com?? Ha! Ha! Ha! Actually, if I had to guess after he gets the Idol boot, then no one will care whether he is gay, straight or taken!
My advice to anyone who wants to make it on American Idol... stage a cheesy little girl to cry for you in the audience before you flame over to awkwardly hug her.

I am outraged over what is happenning on American Idol. This show has become a farce. Apparently it has nothing to do with being a talented singer. It is a popularity contest and unfortunately the least talented seems to be the most popular.Sanjaya is worst singer that show has had in years. He should have been the first to go and Haley Scarnato should have been next. Instead people like Sundance and Stephanie are gone.
That show should either be boycotted or taken off the air. I realize that it is of no fault of the producers or the judges but the object of the show has gone terribly wrong. The voters are misusing their judging powers
casting truly talented people to the side while allowing someone like Sanjaya to possilby be in line to win American Idol just because they feel sorry for him. SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE!!!!!!!! If not pull the plug on the show. It is the only fair thing to do.
I have loved American Idol from the start. I have never missed an episode. I always wanted to be a singer growing up but I knew that I didn't have the talent. Now it is sad to see so much talent not being acknowledged and letting popularity take over is a slap in the face to those who made it through the initial tryouts, made it to Hollywood and then a very young man with a truly beautiful smile with so-so singing talent beat them out while truly gifted singers are sent packing. I understand that the public is the voting party but please..there are judges there for a reason. Maybe the judging system and voting system needs to be tweeked. I would also like to know why this truly popular show that millions and millions of people watch is on so late in the evening. There are those of us who work and in our time zone can't stay up to watch it and enjoy it.

I am totally disgusted that Sanjaya is still on American Idol. ITS A DISGRACE! I don't put the blame so much on the young girls as I put most of the blame on Paula, Simon and Randy for allowing him to get through. They have the control, and you can't tell me that there weren't better singers than him. Its totally up to them who gets through. Of course, the young girls are going to vote for who they are attracted to opposed to their talent. There is a good chance that he could make it to the end. What a joke! If this happens,I would be so disgusted that I wouldn't want to watch the show again and I believe I speak for the majority of the public. They either have to put more control over the voting or be more selective on who they allow to make it through.
ama
why is your criticism specific to AI and not a general critique of democracy and capitalism?
American Idol is a favorite show of our entire family but we have stopped watching it because our favorites are being voted off and the two singers who are really horrible are still on. So until American Idol gets its act together we are watching other things.
All I really have to say, SUNDANCE where are you? Sanjaya ain't got nothing compared to what Sundance has to offer. Just his eyes alone have more talent than that geeky, crooked smile and Sanjaya's singing have combined. When they had the two of them out on that stage, and they told Sundance that he was going home, Sanjaya KNEW that it should have been him. Sanjaya, you should just quit and put all of American out of it's misery.

What is going on - are we really to believe that Stephanie is an untalented singer at this stage in the contest!!! What is wrong with the American public at large - I cannot watch this show anymore it has become a farce - I feel sorry for the judges who really know their stuff - they must be embarassed, humiliated and frustrated at what is happening - Sanjaya himself is embarassed about still being there he knows he is useless and can barely look the camera in the eye - as for me I am tuning out and watching other programs it is too painful to watch!! Will all the real talent on the show please stand up and go on to achieve fame and fortune - let us all be inspired and gain renewed confidence by the example of Jennifer Hudson.

Apparently those who have posted comments about Sanjaya and the reporter have not heard about what could be the real reason that he remains on the show. Howard Stern, the self proclaimed "King of All Media" (Sirius Satellite Radio) has been asking all his fans to vote for Sanjaya. Personally I think the ploy is hilarious and apparently working well. The real question is how long this tactic will work. I personally think he didn't do all to bad during this weeks British Invasion and if he wins a few more souls/votes by doing better, coupled with Stern's ploy, we could be seeing a lot more of him.
I along with everyone at work watch American Idol since it first went on air. We have discussed this and we are getting frustrated every week when someone with talent is voted off and that person who can't sing named "SANJAYA" is still on the show. I know it is a singing competition but these little teeny boppers don't realize that cause they are getting to the age of hormones. They vote cause he is cute, which is not the case. Someone with really good talent gets voted off cause of alittle crush. Then you have that really stupid website "Vote for the Worst" and also Howard Stern's radio show which he might want to look in the mirror and realize he needs to go on the TV show which gives you a total makeover. He is as bad as Sanjaya, one can't sing and the other could win the ugliest guy award. America get your priorities straight, this is a "SINGING CONTEST" not a popularity contest. Another week goes by and you will loose someone again with talent while SANJAYA stays, we have decided not to buy tickets for the tour and not to watch the show anymore. There should be away where you can control the way the votes come in and do something about that website VFTW. If there was a way I would love to tell Sanjaya that he can't sing and he is depriving someone else who has talent to be voted off. Someone needs to tell the poor kid he has no talent, instead of encouraging him.
I also think that Sanjaya did well this week. My family and I enjoyed his performance this past week. I think that all the contestants are enjoyable to hear, some more than others. We should all continue to remember that there can only be one winner in this competition and not bring out extreme criticism to those who some beleive should of been ousted first before some others. Sanjaya does have talent as a singer or else he would not have made the top 24 out of all the thousands who auditioned.
Remember vote for the worst is just a stupid site that was brought up because maybe it would be funny or something along that line. Some people think it is not funny and a waste of time. A lot of votes are going to Sanjaya becauese they truly enjoy his performance. Sanjaya don't waste your time with people who are negative and bring nothing to the table as the expression goes.
Dudes and Dudettes,
American Idol is like wallstreet, like "what have you done lately", People donot vote for who got the best talent, they vote for what did you did tonite, and Stepahnie did not do well couple of nights ago, same as the kid who forgot his words, and the same goes to sundance, who picked a song that he should not have sung, even though they all have more talent then they one who are still in it.
I cannot believe that Sanjaya has made it this far. His rendition of the great Kinks song, "You Really Got Me", was horrendous at best. Hope Ray Davies did not see it; he might have had a stroke. Nothing against Sanjaya (except his singing), but unfortunately much more talented singers are falling by the wayside. The voting does need a change. NOW!! Each week, I think the 3 singers with the least number of votes should be up for elimination; it would then be the judges decision to determine who (of the 3) gets eliminated. In this way, the public still has some say in who stays, but more importantly the judges still have some control over who makes it to the top, and thus prevents the absolute joke that is occurring this season.
I had a feeling that Stephanie was not going to last. Although very talented, in my opinion she sounded like she was losing her confidence - but I would have thought Hailey and Sanjaya would have gone first.
Once again this shows how America capitalizes on other issues rather than sticking to what was the purpose for anyway.
Who cares either way? It's "reality tv". If you don't like it then don't watch but stop complaining. This kid is getting the chance of a lifetime and whether he deserves it or not, all the constant criticism should stop! He's not the one doing the voting, he's just trying to make it. Get over it and get a serious hobby but leave him alone!!!
I can't believe the American public is so tone-deaf as to keep Sanjaya on American Idol! Or does that sick moron Howard Stern reach that many people that listen to him? That's the scariest thought of all' that Americans can be dictated to by a mentally ill piece of garbage!
Also, to the judges: what possessed you to let Sanjaya through to Hollywood? I am finished with Idol and will never purchase another ticket to the tour!
I have never been so discusted in the voting of the American Idol, Fox and A.I. producers are going to have to do something about the voting system. There should be only 1 vote per call and they can certainly set a system up to screen this. Good singers are being voted off because of silly teenybobbers and others who are playing games and think this is smart. It will certainly destroy the show when people stop watching. We have the same problem here in Canada. J. Winslow.
SANYAJA SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS DONKEY DICK!!!
I do wonder why everyone is blaming Sanjaya.Stephani is a best singer,i do accept that. But her last perfomance was not good as expected.
I'm boycotting the show and so should everyone else!!!!
Ok, here's the thing about Sanjaya. He's a nice kid. He has nice hair, and a funny smile. He seems spunky enough, just not when he's actually singing. Although I didn't think he had it in him to shout like he did on that last song, I was mildly impressed. But as for making the Top 24? I think that was pretty fair. He had a great 1st audition, and he did well in Hollywood Week. He has been weaker since then, and I agree that he no longer deserves to be there, so other people can still have a chance. But I really don't think that the guy can't sing. I just think that his voice is good, but not very powerful. He should be singing jazz or something, but he's not really American Idol Top 10 material. They're looking for someone much more powerful than him, and a little more mainstream. He's adorable, and I feel a little sorry for him, but I DON'T want him to be there still! Another good thing about him: He's taking everything that's going on, and he still goes onto the stage and gives it a million percent. He probably won't win, or have a contemporary singing career. He doesn't suit or deserve it. He's more of a 'really nice guy/jazz/I'd love to meet you type of a person. He really shouldn't be blamed though, he's not the one that's voting himself in! But as for his fan base? I pretty much agree with everyone. Indian-Americans, teen girls who fall in love with him, grandmothers who think he's adorable, sweet, kind and that he can't do anything wrong, talk show hosts, VotetheWorst.com, and mothers who think he's adorable and wish that their daughters could choose boyfriends like him. He should definitely leave, but I don't think that anyone has the right to hate the guy!
Lesson to e learned judges, do not put through people who do not make the grade from the start. danger may be that votes will keep them on at the peril of those who deserve a chance and the idol pot of gold
I USED to really like American Idol but this time it sucks. I don't mean the whole show sucks just Sanjaya how this kid is still there is beyond me.I thought this was a tallent show for singers. This kid can not sing. Cute doesn't cut it and that is all he has going for him.Wake up and smell the coffee get your heads out of your butts and vote him off.

why is the kid with all the hair still on the show????????????his should have never made it to hollywood even the judges are surprised.this has to be a setup to jack-up the ratings.this may be my last time watching.good singers have been sent home, even he is surprised.if teenagers are running the show its time for this old man to leave.
It's a great show and well produced. If you want your favorite to stay then you must vote for them. My favorite is Melinda Dolittle and if for some reason in the next few weeks she gets sent home, then I have no cause to complain because I didn't get on the phone and vote for her. Anyone can see that Sanjaya and his army of fans from the call centers will keep him around for a couple of weeks but eventual justice will prevail and the deserved winner will get the title. Sanjaya is the chicken little of 2007 and very entertaining.
I for one like his performances and hope to see him around for just a couple of weeks more. Those that are gone already failed to get enough votes and it's just the way the show works.
I am canadian and my family watches the show. With Sanjaya, the kid is trying his best and good for him that he is still in the top ten. I am sure he will mature with time and will greatly improve as time goes by. Stop bashing the kid and complement hin for his talent and wish him good luck. How would you feel if that was your son. Good luck Sanjaya.
hi everyone.......im a great fan of american idol n i too have been watching it religiousy every week frm way over here in india.....being an indian i should have been elated tht a fellow indian american has made it thru so far in d worlds most watched talent show........but I AM NOT HAPPY......IN FACT I AM ENRAGED THT SANJAYA IS DISGRACING US WITH HIS TERRIBLE SINGING AND BLATANT DECLARATIONS THT HE TRULY BELIEVES THT HE CAN BE THE NEXT AMERICAN IDOL.........i truly believe in d theory of 'let the best man win' n he is far from being the best man.if being an indian i can be nonpartisan and fair in my assessment and judgement why cannot the rest of america who have the voting power.(we here in india don't)..........if i were in sanjaya's place i would have quit the show and perhaps saved some face doing so...............i just hope n pray to god that the american public really sees the light soon before its too late............i personally love lakisha, melinda, jordin and im crazy about blake.....tht's what talent is all about...........
by the way i do speak for the majority of indians here in india when i say sanjaya truly sucks........n how dare he butcher my favourite song 'ain't no mountain '........simon was right when he said DIANA ROSS WOULD SCREAM...........I DID, N I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THE GREAT DIVA WENT THROUGH.............SANJAYA PLZZZZZZZZZZ HAVE MERCY ON US.........N SPARE OUR EARS FROM THE TORTURE..........BLAKE KEEP ROCKIN N BOXING........love ya
There is nothing wrong with AI or Sanjaya being on it still.....granted much better singers have left but boo hoo....Sanjaya made it to the finals by Paula Randy and Simon so now America votes and let the games begin. I enjoy watching it all playout....it is entertaining, but all this drama about Sanjaya still being there....Big Deal! I think most of them in the top 12 will still do something in the music industry if they truely are talented no matter how america votes....look at the trak record for those who didn't make it all the way. I love watching and expecting the unexpected!
OMG what in the heck was Sanjaya thinking when he had his hair done it was such a joke.I think makeing a big deal over some little girl crying is a ploy to get people mostly the younger little girls to vote for him. I honestly feel it was a set up to get him votes. What about all of the rest of the singers are they trying to pull something like this off I don't think so.They don't have to because they CAN sing and don't have to play games or have silly hair do's.
Ok Parents it is time to take the phone and computor away from your little girls. It is because of your little girls that think Sanjaya is cute and are voteing for him only because of that. The truely talented singers are being sent home. Sanjaya is turning a singing contest into a JOKE.
