Snicker-phobia

OMG!  Two men kiss during a Super Bowl commercial as they lust over a Snicker's bar.  I thought it was my dream come true, until I saw the reaction that came next.

The story goes a bit like this:  A bearish redneck mechanic is working on an old homo's car when the mechanic pops the nutty candy bar in his mouth.  The old homo is so turned on, he bites into the candy bar in a Lady and the Tramp sort of way.  Then they rip out their chest hair (I don't get that part), and the audience is enouraged to go to their website to vote on alternate endings.

I know you queens didn't watch the Super Bowl, so here's the ad:

The Human Rights Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation complained to the maker of Snickers, Hackettstown, N.J.–based Masterfoods USA, a division of Mars Inc., which also makes M&M's and other candies.  Now the company has pulled the ad from television and removed the voting from their website.

Too little too late. Doesn't Mars, Inc. have any gay people in their advertising department to speak up and say "girl, that's offensive?" If not, they need to hire a consultant. Morons!

I thought it was funny, not very offensive...

I didnt see how that was offensive at all. It was funny. There is nothing wrong with being gay just as there is also nothing wrong with two straight men accidentally kissing and being repulsed by it.

honestly, i think it was Mars just making a good 'safe' risk in showing something that normally is seen as 'disgusting' by the general public. i don't think that's so terrible. or "offensive", as you may have seen it. : )

QAF attempted the 'in your face' approach. And mainstream tv does nothing but lame stereotyping (aka Queer Eye, etc). I think Mars did fine, especially for the fact that they were catering to the 'macho' sports fans demographics.
