NY Episcopal defies church on anti-gay orders

In a meeting this week in Tanzania, world leaders of the Anglican Church ordered the Episcopal Church (its U.S. counterpart) to ban gay unions and stop consecrating gay bishops -- or risk having its relationship with the international community "damaged at best."

Today, the NY Episcopal bishop says no-way!  Despite pressure from the Anglican Church leaders, New York’s Episcopal Bishop Mark Sisk won’t reconsider his position favoring gay rights.

2007 is so the year of the gay!  It's great to finally have people on "our side."  Now if Hilary Clinton and Barak Obama would come out and add gay marriage to their presidential platform, we would be smooth sailing!

Thankfully, a number of bishops are voicing sentiments similar to Bishop Sisk's. As a retired Episcopal priest partnered for 51 years, I can assure you that there will be much opposition to this Anglican nonsense by most "Global South" peoples. The Anglican Communion is just an international, paper fellowship without effective jurisdiction anywhere. If we USA Episcopalians are not acceptable as Anglicans in communion with Canterbury anymore as we continue our pioneering evolution, no big deal; ministry will continue. For those USA folks who are hysterically "orthodox," there are plenty of other religious options for them. For others who will just miss a linkage to the Queen, well, I suspect that we could quite easily duplicate that add-on from our own numbers. :-)
