No Gay Marriage/ Civil Unions in Hawaii

Hawaii lawmakers shot down a proposal to create civil unions for same-sex couples by deciding not to vote on the proposed legislation.

Witnesses say over 100 people attended the House Judiciary Committee hearing holding signs supporting civil unions.  Several hundred other submitted written testimony.

Representative killed the bill by declining to vote at all.  They aren't required to tell the public why, but after five hours of testimony, this simply shows that the bill doesn't have the support it needs to become a law.

After five hours of testimony, though, the committee declined to vote. Representatives offered little explanation to the public, but it was a sign that the bill lacked enough support to become law.
