Is Illinois next for same sex marriages?

As I continue to say, 2007 is the year of the gay!

Gay couples in Illinois may be able to get soon get married if Rep. Greg Harris has his way.  Harris introduced a bill today to change the wording of the state's constitution to define "marriage" as a union between "two persons" rather than a man and woman.

"Illinois is a heartland state but has always been a leader in civil rights and social justice issues," said Rep. Harris (D-Chicago). "It's the right thing to do."

The bill has plenty of opposition, but if passed Illinois would become the second state to allow same sex marriages behind Massachusetts.
