Half-way between Heaven and Candy
I'm not talking about purgatory. I'm talking about the New York City nightclub. I broke this story early Thursday morning, and today I have an update! Heaven nightclub in NYC is a thing of the past, with new management and new owners we'll now be hanging at the Candy Lounge on Saturday nights. The place is currently undergoing a huge transformation from hellish to sweet.
Preview:
For those of you who checked out the new Rush Thursdays at the NEW Candy Lounge, you got to see a sneak peak of New York City's newest nightclub. When the doors at 579 Sixth Avenue opened in 2001, Heaven quickly became the hot spot for the 18 plus crowd in the city that never sleeps. Over the past few years, the promoters and various management have tried to "recreate," "rebirth," and take the venue "back to basics." While their efforts were valiant, they attempts weren't too awfully successful.
What's New:
Now a new set of investors have taken over, and from what their Promotions Director Alan Picus tells GaySocialites.com the makeover is going to surprise even the biggest skeptic. Picus is one of the pioneers who built the popular Saturday night party under the same roof. He is also known for his infamous Thursday night 'BoiParty' at Splash. Picus said the Candy Lounge hosted a sneak-peak party on Thursday night since Campus Thursday were reserved for the upper-classmen as Splash is exercising its 21+ muscle now. While Picus' is still at Splash, some of the younger Campus guys are launching their own party, Rush Thursdays at the Candy Lounge.
"This will be our soft open on Thursday, the grand opening will come in a few weeks when all of the renovations are done," Picus said.
Picus and the new owners say patrons will see the transformation happening very quickly right before their eyes. In addition to a new name and a new look, Picus warns us of a new attitude and new rundown of parties, promoters and performers. You'll even see some new items on the menu soon.
What isn't leaving:
Picus' flagship party on Saturday nights will stick around with DJ Steve Sidewalk, hosted by yours truly with performances by Skyla Versai, Kitty Litter and the return of Anija Cox.
What to expect:
As an employee, I get some behind the scenes info so you'll hear it here first. The new owner told me he was going to restore the classic parts of the building and get rid of the rest. Beneath a lot of that paint and cheap sheet rock lies some beautiful wood working that will definitely give the old joint a cozy feel. Check out the detail on th bars and the new bolder tones. I also hear you'll see a makeover on the first floor moving the DJ booth closer to the stage, so you'll see a lot of more of Steve Sidewalk and I together. Gorgeous!
Our hats go off to the new folks at the Candy Lounge. We are anxious to see more of your exciting changes. Is there a raise in it for me?
