Tennessee political pioneer Annabelle Clement O'Brien dead at 86

RIP_annabelle_clement.jpgI am sad to report that I have lost one of my mentors, former Tennessee State Senator Annabelle Clement O'Brien.

A family spokeswoman says Miss Annabelle (as she was commonly known) died two weeks after a fall at her home. She was 86.

O'Brien was, of course, a member of the influencential Clement family of Tennessee. Her brother Frank even served as Governor.

Annabelle was someone I have known for a long time, and she gave me the inspiration as child to be whatever I wanted to be as an adult. She gets part of the credit for my success.

Miss Annabelle told me, many times, as a teenager that I would one day be President. Maybe she was right. It was just great to know that someone with so much power believed in me.

Annabelle Clement O'Brien will forever be remembered as a pioneer for female politicians in the south, someone who always worked for the "working" man and woman and as one of my heros.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Clement and O'Brien families, many friends of mine from way-back (as they say in Tennessee).

walter_cronkite_funeral.jpg

My broadcasting hero, Walter Cronkite, was laid to rest on Thursday before a star-studded television news line-up that included Katie Couric, Dan Rather, Barbara Walters and many more.

I got my start in television news, and like just about every other young reporter - I aspired to be just like Walter Cronkite.

He was taken off the air too soon as CBS fell in love with a much younger Dan Rather, and there will never be another one like him.

Was David Carradine murdered? Or was it erotic asphyxiation?

david_carradine_murdered.jpg

Today there seems to be some debate over whether or not David Carradine killed himself or was murdered. There doesn't seem to be much proof that Carradine was murdered, but there does seem to be some theories that the 72-year-old actor accidentally killed himself.

Carradine was evidently found naked, hanging by a rope in the closet of his Bangkok hotel room. This leaves many people to believe that David may have died as a result of erotic asphyxiation.

For those of you who don't know about erotic asphyxiation, that's when you tie something around your neck to cut off the oxygen supply while masturbating. It evidently gives you an orgasm to die for. (sorry, I had to!)

I'm not sure if we'll every know whether or not this is how Carradine died, meanwhile his family says the actor had no reason to kill himself and showed no signs of depression.

Charges filed in 2006 murder of Armand Jones

armandjonescharges.jpg

Two Long Beach gang members could soon be smacked with life in prison without parole for allegedly killing actor Armand Jones and wounding another man outside an Anaheim Denny's in 2006.

Damon Hill and Jarrell Kelly, both in their early 20s, were charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and three counts of second-degree robbery. There sentences could be even harsher due to gang activity.

Both are serving three-year state prison terms for unrelated crimes.

Here's how the night of Armand's death went down:

The suspects confronted the victims at the restaurant in the early morning of March 17, 2006, after a night at the nearby Boogie nightclub, according to Orange County prosecutors.

Hill and Kelly, accompanied by several acquaintances, allegedly followed the victims' friends Giovanni Boyd and Dwayne Washington into the Denny's restroom. There Hill and Kelly identified themselves as gang members, robbing Boyd and Washington at gunpoint and stealing their jewelry and shoes, prosecutors said.

Boyd's and Washington's friend Armand D. Jones, 18, of Long Beach eventually followed them to the restroom, said Orange County district attorney's spokeswoman Farrah Emami. There the suspects robbed Jones of a large medallion, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Tim Schmidt.

Hill, Kelly and their group allegedly pushed past Jones, running through the restaurant into the Denny's parking lot as Jones chased after them. Outside, Hill and Kelly shot Jones in the chest, prosecutors said. Jones and the other victim, who survived a gunshot to the head, were not affiliated with gangs, Schmidt said.

Jones staggered back inside the crowded restaurant, where he died "right there in the doorway," Schmidt said.

Cops say the attack is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Anaheim Police Det. Kerry Condon at (714) 765-1944.

"There was plenty to stand up and say "No!" to during my first term in the U.S. Senate," Helms wrote in "Here's Where I Stand." "In fact, that was why (I had) run for the U.S. Senate — to try to derail the freight train of liberalism that was gaining speed toward its destination of 'government-run' everything, paid for with big tax bills and record debt."

Helms died early Friday, July 4th at the age of 86, having spent the past few years out of the spotlight while in declining health at a Raleigh convalescent home.

Friends remembered him as a patriot while his foes remember him as a man filled with hatred who judged even when there was no need to say "no!"

Regardless, Senator Jesse Helms rest in peace.

RIPpowers.jpgIt doesn't look like the Republicans in Staten Island are going to be able to hold on to New York City's only GOP Congressional seat.

Frank Powers, the man primed to help the Republicans hold on to Vito Fossella, died in his sleep over the weekend. He was 67 years old.

Powers' son Brian, 23, read the following statement on behalf of the family outside their Staten Island home:

"Our dad, Frank Powers, passed away early this morning. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family. We would appreciate privacy at this time as we make the necessary arrangements. We shall have more information when the final arrangements have been made. We thank you for your kindness and cooperation and ask you to keep our dad and our family in your prayers."

Fossella said he would not run for re-election after his DUI violation revealed he had a love child with a mistress in D.C.

No cause of death has been determined for 18-year-old Stephanie Kuleba who was set to enter the pre-med program at the University of Florida this fall, but her family attorney says that doctors believe Kuleba died of a rare and potentially deadly genetic reaction to general anesthesia known as malignant hyperthermia, which sends the body into shock.

17-year-old charged with killing rapper Juvenile's daughter

juvenilebabykiller.jpg

The young man who killed the biological daughter of rap star Juvenile has been charged with murder.

Anthony Tyrone Terrell Jr. was charged Friday in the deaths at the family home near Lawrenceville, where the bodies were found the night before, said police spokeswoman Illana Spellman.

Police say Terrell murdered his mother and two small sisters. The victims have been identified as Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy Joy Deleston, 39, and her two daughters, Micaiah, 11, and Jelani, 4. Jelani is Juvenile's daughter.

Deleston brought a paternity lawsuit in 2004, claiming that the 32-year-old rap star Juvenile, whose real name is Terius Gray, was Jelani's father, Gwinnett County court records show.

Attorney Randy Kessler, who represented Juvenile in the proceedings, said the case was resolved peacefully by consent order in 2006. Both parties agreed Juvenile was the father.

Kessler said Saturday he had not talked with the rapper about the killings. "Anytime you have a situation like that, it's shocking," Kessler said.

Terrell was taken to jail in neighboring DeKalb County to avoid any potential conflict because Deleston worked for Gwinnett County, Spellman said. He is being held without bail.

The motive was still unclear.

Congressman Tom Lantos dies of cancer complications

RIPrepLantos.jpg

Lantos served as representative from California since 1980. He also chaired the chamber's Foreign Affairs committee.

When he announced his diagnosis, Lantos, expressed his "profoundly felt gratitude to this great country."

"It is only in the United States that a penniless survivor of the Holocaust and a fighter in the anti-Nazi underground could have received an education, raised a family, and had the privilege of serving the last three decades of his life as a member of Congress," he said.

Tributes quickly poured in for Lantos, from across the political aisle.

President George W. Bush hailed him as a "champion" of human rights.

"As the only Holocaust survivor to serve in Congress, Tom was a living reminder that we must never turn a blind eye to the suffering of the innocent at the hands of evil men," Bush said in a statement issued from the White House, where flags were lowered to half-staff.

Hillary and Bill Clinton remembered the "courageous and improbable journey" of Lantos's life.

Christian Brando dead at 49

RIP

Christian Brando, the troubled eldest son of the late actor Marlon Brando, has died. He was 49.

Brando's attorney said Christian died from pneumonia at a Los Angeles hospital. He was taken to the hospital on Jan. 11th.

There are no funeral plans yet scheduled.

"This is a sad and difficult time for the family," Brando's attorney said.

Christian Brando never really held down a career, but he did some acting work. He had small roles in a handful of movies, including 1968's "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas!"

Unfortuantely, Brando he was better known for his brushes with the law. He spent five years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in 1990 for killing his sister's boyfriend, Dag Drollet, at the Brando family's hilltop estate.

Brando claimed that he accidentally shot Drollet as they struggled for a gun during an argument over whether Drollet, 26, had beaten Brando's pregnant half-sister, Cheyenne.

Cheyenne, who later gave birth to Drollet's son but lost custody of the child, killed herself in 1995. She was 25.

Heath Ledger could have died of natural causes

We have been trying to avoid all of the speculation that there is any foul play associated with Heath Ledger's death.

Heath seemed like an amazing person, great father and incredible actor... so we see no reason to speculate.

I was happy to read on TMZ today that their sources believe Ledger may have died of natural causes. The Sunday Mail, on the other hand, is reporting that Heath's former fiance (Michelle Williams) left him due to drug use.

TMZ is also reporting that the rumors of a plot for Mary-Kate Olsen's bodyguard to remove illegal drugs from Ledger's apartment is false.

The toxicology reports will be back in a week or so. I can't wait for all of the speculation to be over!

Mary-Kate Olsen releases statement on Heath Ledger's death

Mary-Kate Olsen has released a statement regarding the death of her rumored boyfriend Heath Ledger.

"Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss," Mary-Kate said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight. "My thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time."

As we previously reported, despite rumors Olsen will not be questioned by police during the investigation into Ledger's death.

Mary Kate Olsen will not be questioned in Heath Ledger's death

As it turns out, Heath Ledger's massage therapist called Mary-Kate Olsen four times before calling 911.

The masseuse spent nine minutes calling Olsen before dialing 911.

From what I understand, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things since it seems that Heath was dead before the massage therapist even entered the room.

We can also report that the rumors of Mary-Kate Olsen being investigated by the NYPD are not true. The cops say the investigation is pretty much done. They're just waiting on the toxicology reports.

Does this interview foreshadow Heath Ledger's death?

A recent interview with actor Heath Ledger has turned out to be extremely eerie!

The "Brokeback Mountain" actor said in an interview in November that "Dark Knight" and last year's "I'm Not There," took a heavy toll on him. Heath said he "stressed out a little too much" during the Dylan film, and had trouble sleeping while portraying the Joker, whom he called a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy."

"Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told The New York Times. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going."

Heath said he took two Ambien sleeping pills, which only worked for an hour.

Heath Ledger autopsy inconclusive, could take 10 days

An autopsy on 28-year-old actor Heath Ledger began on Wednesday and the intial findings were inconclusive, the medical examiner's office said. It will take about 10 days to complete the investigation, according to a spokeswoman for the office.

Fans and mourners have created a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles outside Ledger's apartment where he was found dead on Tuesday.

Cops say they found bottles of prescription sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medication in his bedroom near where the "Brokeback Mountain" actor's body was found. Other pill bottles were found in the bathroom, and they all still contained pills.

News of Ledger's death spread quickly, from the crowd of 300 people that gathered Tuesday outside his Manhattan apartment to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, where those with close ties to the actor included Naomi Watts, who dated him after they met on the set of "Lords of Dogtown," a fictionalized story about the birth of modern skateboarding.

The drugs found in Heath Ledger's apartment revealed

When cops found Heath Ledger dead in his apartment on Tuesday they also found some pill bottles inside the room. Evidently those bottles contained an antidepressant and Ambien.

Friends say Heath had recently experienced problems sleeping and may have battled depression.

Ledger's family has said that there is no evidence to support foul play including suicide. NYPD officers initially said Heath's death seemed accidental.

Officers inside the apartment said the Broome Street apartment did not seem like a permanent residence for Ledger. The apartment was evidently undecorated, and the bed where Heath's body was found was actually just two mattresses stacked on the floor in plain sheets.

An autopsy is expected to start on Wednesday.

Heath Ledger's father releases a statement

Heath Ledger's father Kim released a statement on the tragic loss of his son in New York.

“Heath’s family confirms the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.

“We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.

“He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our family’s need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.”

An autopsy on Ledger's body is expected to start on Wednesday. His family has said the death was accidentally and there were no signs of suicide or foul play.

Heath Ledger's ex-fiance Michelle Williams 'devastated'

A source close to Heath Ledger's former fiance Michelle Williams says the actress was 'devastated' when she heard that the Australian actor had died in New York.

Williams was evidently in Sweden filming a movie with the couple's daughter Matilda.

"He was absolutely in love with his daughter," says another source. "And he really liked what he did [acting]. He spoiled [Matilda] rotten. He was playful and very funny with her."

The source adds: "I can't believe Matilda is going to grow up without a dad, without knowing her father. And that Michelle will have to deal with having a daughter who's lost her father. She's a survivor. She'll make it, but it's going to be hard. Her first concern is going to be Matilda."

Williams reportedly hopped on a plane bound for New York as soon as she heard about Heath's death.

Did Heath Ledger have a substance abuse problem?

After cops found actor Heath Ledger dead in his Soho apartment on Tuesday, sources have confirmed that Ledger had a substance abuse problem. TMZ is reporting that he had been clean for a year.

Ledger's body was evidently found dead in his Soho apartment face down on a bed surrounded by sleeping pills when his housekeeper found him.

Police say it is too early to determine whether the death was accidental or suicide.

Heath Ledger was 28 years old at the time of his death.

Pills found near Heath Ledger's dead body

As we previously reported, Heath Ledger was found dead in his downtown Manhattan apartment on Tuesday afternoon.

Evidently his housekeeper entered Heath's room to let him know that his masseuse had arrived when she found the 28-year-old actor's dead body surrounded by pills.

Ledger, who was born in Australia, played the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in "Monster's Ball" and had starring roles in "A Knight's Tale," "Brokeback Mountain" and "The Patriot." He was to appear as the Joker this year in "The Dark Night," a sequel to 2005's "Batman Begins."

BREAKING NEWS: Actor Heath Ledger has died

Actor Heath Ledger has passed away in New York. Ledger was found dead laying in bed at one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper. He was 28 years old.

This story is still developing, and we will have more information as soon as it is available.

Actor Brand Renfo's troubled life ends at 25

Actor Brad Renfro has died at the age of 25. The cause of his death is still unknown, but friends say he was drinking the night before his death.

Renfro, an actor since childhood, was found dead on Tuesday morning in his home. An autopsy is expected to be conducted as early as tomorrow.

I had the honor of working with Renfro on a commercial set several years ago. While Brad had a wild streak, he was still a very nice person.

During his short life, he had several run-ins with police that resulted in DUI's and drug charges.

Renfro's attorney, Richard Kaplan, said Brad was working on his sobriety at his time of death.

Brad grew up near my hometown in Knoxville, Tennessee. His film career began when he was 12, acting opposite Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones in "The Client." Renfro's other credits included "Sleepers," "Deuces Wild," "Apt Pupil" and "The Jacket."

RIP Brad.

Former figure skater Christopher Bowman found dead in hotel

Figure skating champion Christopher Bowman was known for two things, his flair on the ice and his battle with drugs and alcohol. On Thursday, cops found Bowman dead in a budget hotel in the San Fernando Valley. They believe drugs and alcohol might be to blame.

Authorities prounced Bowman dead just after noon on Thursday and said an autopsy would be scheduled for later this week.

"He just passed away in his sleep," Bowman's mother, Joyce, told the Detroit Free Press. "His friend told me that he was fine. He just went to bed and didn't wake up."

Bowman, also a child actor, had a part in the TV series "Little House on the Prairie" for one season and appeared in dozens of commercials. He got into coaching after his skating career was finished, and the Free Press said he had lived in the Detroit area from 1995 until last February.

The friend who found him Bowman dead in the hotel room said he was likely drinking the night before his death.

Christopher Bowman was a ice skating figure in the 1980's and 90's. He was 40 years old.

No sign of surgical misadventure in Donda West death

The coroner's report is in, and it looks the controversial doctor is cleared. A medical examiner says there was no sign of "surgical or anesthetic misadventure" in the death of Kanye West's mother, Donda West.

Donda evidently died of a heart attack in Los Angeles in November a day after having breast reduction, liposuction and tummy tuck procedures. Examiners say the surgery coronary artery disease, or a number of postoperative factors.

The state medical board is still investigating whether the plastic surgeon, Jan Adams, should have his license revoked or suspended after two alcohol-related arrests in the past four years. Adams, who came under fire after West's death, has denied any wrongdoing.

Four people arrested in Sean Taylor murder

Four guys (basically children) aged 17, 18, 19 and 20 are in police custody for the murder of football player Sean Taylor.

Taylor died last weekend after three young street thugs evidently broke into his house and shot him in the groin area.

Police said the men planned to rob Taylor's home and had not expected to find anybody there when they broke in.

"There are four people that we have in custody. There have been statements made by one or more of the subjects regarding their involvement in the case," said Miami-Dade Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Webb.

The men, identified by police as Eric Rivera Jr., Charles Wardlow, Jason Mitchell and Venjah Hunte, will likely be charged with felony murder.

Taylor's former lawyer and family friend Richard Sharpstein said he understands that the suspects heard about Taylor's house in Palmetto Bay, a village south of Miami, through someone bragging about how much money the football star had.

"It looks by all indications to be exactly as I've said, that he was targeted because Sean was a wealthy football player," Sharpstein said amid initial reports that three young men were being questioned in the Fort Myers area.

Taylor and his fiancee were awakened by noises in the middle of the night and Taylor was shot when his bedroom door burst open as he went to lock it.  He had grabbed a machete to defend himself while his girlfriend hid with their 18-month-old baby beneath the bedcovers.

RIP Dick Wilson, Mr. Whipple

Dick Wilson, the actor and pitchman who played "Mr. Whipple," the grocer best known for telling customers "Please, don't squeeze the Charmin," died Monday. He was 91 years old.

Wilson died of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, according to his daughter Melanie Wilson, who is known for her role as a flight attendant on the ABC sitcom "Perfect Strangers."

Over 21 years, Wilson made more than 500 commercials as Mr. George Whipple, a man with the responsiblity of keeping bubbly housewives from squeezing the soft toilet paper. The punch line of most spots was that Whipple himself was a closeted Charmin-squeezer.

Wilson also played appeared on "Bewitched," "Hogan's Heroes," "The Bob Newhart Show," and several Walt Disney productions.

The first of his Charmin commercials aired in 1964 and by the time the campaign ended in 1985, the tag line and Wilson were pop culture touchstones.

Wilson was born in England in 1916, the son of a vaudeville entertainer and a singer. He moved to Canada as a child, serving in the Canadian Air Force during World War II, and became a U.S. citizen in 1954.

In addition to Melanie, Wilson is survived by his wife, Meg; a son, Stuart; and another daughter, Wendy.

The night Donda West died

Contrary to previous reports, Kanye West's mother did not die at the hospital immediately after having reconstructive surgery.  Word has it Donda was at home and someone called 911 before she died.

Paramedics responded to a 911 call around 7:35pm on Saturday night and transported Donda to Centinela Freeman Hospital in Marina del Rey.   West was pronounced dead around 8:30 PM later that night.

An autopsy is scheduled this week to find out exactly what her cause of death was.  I wouldn't be surprised if Kanye keeps this under lock and key.  The West family isn't releasing much information.

Donda West warned against surgery

As it turns out, Donda West, was warned against the surgery that led to her death.

TMZ.com is reporting that Kanye's mom was refused for the surgery just a few weeks before she died.

TMZ has learned that just weeks before Donda West died, a plastic surgeon refused to perform procedures on her because of a health condition that could have led to a heart attack.

We've learned Beverly Hills physician, Dr. Andre Aboolian, was set to perform a tummy tuck and breast reduction on Ms. West, but told her she needed to get clearance from an internist whom Dr. Aboolian recommended. We're told West never went to that doctor, and subsequently had the procedures performed -- but not by Dr. Aboolian.

Still nonetheless, VERY sad!

Friends say Kanye is in shock and hasn't really accepted the fact that Donda has died.  West and this mother were extremely close.

Kanye's mom Donda may have died while recovering from plastic surgery

Donda West's rep Patricia Green has confirmed the news we broke yesterday on how Kanye's mom died:

"She died as the result of complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure," Green said.

Green didn't elaborate on how. She didn't say whether she died while in surgery or afterwards.

TMZ.com put their best celebrity detectives on it to find out that Donda may have died because she didn't get the right treatment for recovery.  We have heard she had two procedures, one of which could have been liposuction.

From TMZ: Sources tell us several months ago, West was scheduled for cosmetic surgery and she had been booked at Le Palais Chantique in Century City, a posh, hotel-like recovery center. We're told West postponed the surgery and therefore never showed up at Chantique.

They are also reporting that Donda West didn't check into either of these facilities over the weekend either.  If you're Kanye West's mommy, you know you get only best even when going under the knife to remove a few years/ pounds.

That could mean that she wasn't having plastic surgery, or it could mean that Donda had the surgery and died while trying to recover.

For now it is all gossip, but I'm sure the truth will come out later.  Meanwhile, let's get the poor lady buried.

West Hollywood Gay Bar goes down in flames

The WeHo gay hot spot, Mickey's, went up in flames on Tuesday as the flamers rolled in for Happy Hour.

Paparazzi and gay D-listers gathered around to watch the building burn to the ground.  CBS2 is reporting that the fire started in a malfunctioning air conditioning unit in the basement that was fueled by liquor meant to stir up thousands of green appletinis.  Even gay fires have drama!

"There were people outside crying, resting their heads on people's shoulders," witnesses said.

I guess it really is upsetting when you had your night set on stuffing dollars down go-go boys thongs.  Life is tough.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mickey's in WeHo.

This marks the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death.  He died at his infamous home, Graceland.  On Wednesday night a candle light vigil began at 9pm and will continue until 10am Thursday morning around Elvis' grave on the Graceland site.

Presley's wife, Priscilla, appeared on Larry King Live Wednesday night and walked viewers through the mansion showing how things have remained very similar to the way Elvis left them 30 years ago.

Another professional wrestler found dead

An unfortunate string of deaths continue to plague World Wrestling Entertainment.  Another professional wrestler, Brian "Crush" Adams died on Monday after he was found unconscious in his home.  He was 44 years old.

Adams body showed no visible signs of injury and foul play was not suspected, according to Tampa police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor. Authorities were awaiting autopsy results before continuing with their investigation.

Adams’s wife evidently found him not breathing and called 911.  Rescue workers later pronounced him dead.

Adams last wrestled with the WWE when it was still the World Wrestling Federation in 2001.

Adams’ death comes less than two months after fellow wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife Nancy "Woman" Benoit (also affiliated with the WWE) and young son before hanging himself in their Georgia home.  After authorities found steroids in their home, everyone pretty much chalked this one up to roid rage.

Another wrestler, Scary Sherri Martel, was also found dead in her home just before the Benoit tragedy.

Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey killed

The editor of the Oakland Post was killed Thursday morning near a downtown Oakland courthouse.  Police believe Chauncy Bailey was deliberately run down and shot to death.

The outspoken newly appointed editor was killed around 7:30 a.m., Oakland Police spokesman Roland Holmgren said. Witnesses told police a man wearing a mask shot Bailey multiple times and then ran.

Investigators currently have no motive for the killing but have said it did not appear to be random. Holmgren said investigators would look into any possible connections with Bailey's work.

"All of those possibilities will have to be definitely explored and explored thoroughly," Holmgren said.

"I've spoken with him several times," he added. "I know him as being a somewhat outspoken type individual, assertive in his journalistic approach when trying to get at matters at hand."

Bailey was shot multiple times in broad daylight according to police.  Witnesses are cooperating in the investigation but there are no suspects yet, police said.  Holmgren said the weapon used was not a handgun, but he would not disclose the gun's caliber.

Bailey grew up in Oakland and worked with several area media outlets, including KDIA radio and Soul Beat TV, a local cable channel. Before that, he worked for 10 years at the Detroit News.

Coroner's report shows Richard Jeni was mentally ill

Even prior to the day in March when he killed himself, comedian Richard Jeni had a history of mental illness and was hospitalized late last year for suicidal depression, according to a coroner's report released on Thursday.

Jeni died at 49 in a California hospital after shooting himself in the head at his Hollywood home on March 10th.

His girlfriend was making breakfast downstairs when Jeni shot himself in the mouth with a .38-caliber Colt Detective Special handgun, according to the report.  It also reveals that she had heard him talking to himself a week earlier, saying "'just squeeze the trigger.'"

Jeni was involuntarily hospitalized on Dec. 28 after he showed up in a hospital emergency room with suicidal depression and indicated he would jump off of a building.  Other than that incident, the report says Jeni, born Richard John Colangelo, had not made any previous suicide attempts and left no note.

Just days after his Jeni's family disclosed that the comic was mentally ill and said in a statement that he had been diagnosed earlier this year with "severe clinical depression coupled with bouts of psychotic paranoia."

Steriods found in dead wrestlers' home

Police confirmed on Tuesday that steriods were found in the house of Chris Benoit adding fuel to the fire that "roid rage" was the reason the WWE wrestler killed his wife, his son and himself.

"Roid rage" is the term coined for when steriod users become out of control with anger, but the WWE released a statement saying they don't believe steriods contributed to the massacre.

“People that abuse steroids carry with them an increase risk of rage and rage attacks. There’s also an increased risk of depression, so it’s kind of a double whammy.” Psychiatrist Dr. John Bradford told the Edmonton Sun.

Authorities also said that Chris' wife Nancy Benoit, had filed a restraining order against him 2003 because of abusive behavior.

Police also said Bibles were left at the slain bodies of of Benoit's wife and child.

Wrestling tragedies are piling up

Some are starting to refer to it as the WWE curse.  World Wrestling Entertainment has lost two legends in the past week and many fans find themselves flashing back to previous tragedies and reliving some horrible memories.

First police found Sensational Sherri Martel dead in her mothers home.  Cops say that don't suspect any foul play, but they say she did not die of natural causes.

Then on Monday, Chris Benoit was also found dead with his wife and son in their home.  Police suspect that Chris strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself, according to authorities.

This has resparked memories of one of the most tragic scenes in wrestling history.  Wrestler Owen Hart plummeted to his death while attempting a high flying stunt.

Owen was supposed to be lowered down to the ring from about 80 ft. in the air via a lowering mechanism. Owen climbed the stairs and as he got ready for his entrance, he emptied out his costume bag to get dressed. He did not put everything on, however, as he wanted to hook himself to the harness first.

WWE canceled all of their Monday night events following the news of Benoit's death. Police are still investigating why Chris would have killed his family and himself. Many suspect it was anger stemming from steriod use or "roid rage."

Wrestler Chris Benoit found dead

WWE superstar Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday.  Cops suspect it was a murder-suicide. Detective Bob Turner said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.

WAGA-TV is reporting that investigators believe 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. One of their neighbors called the police, and the bodies were found in three different rooms.

Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, told The Associated Press the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and that the causes of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday. Pope said the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m., but did not release any details.

Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion in addition to several tag-team titles throughout his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view on Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

Benoit was born in Canada, but he maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the World Championship Wrestling.

The folks at WWE canceled the live show "Monday Night RAW" in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

"My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend," Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. "Chris was always first-class — warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business."

Born in Waconia, Minn., Herbert was a 1940 graduate of LaCrosse State Teachers. After the war, he worked as an actor, model and radio writer before starting Watch Mr. Wizard in Chicago on NBC.

The show moved to New York after several years.

Investigating the death of Anna Nicole's son Daniel

The medical examiner and police announced on Monday that they suspect no foul play in the death of former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith.  However, that doesn't seem to be the case with the death of her son, Daniel

Smith's son died late last year in the Bahamas shortly after her daughter Dannielynn was born.

Investigators in the Bahamas are planning to start an inquest on Tuesday to explore the circumstances surround 20-year-old Daniel's death.

Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez will preside over the case, but he says thanks to the media surrounding Anna Nicole's life and death; picking a jury to oversee the investigation might be hard.

That is a major cause of concern because you would have to have been living in a cave not to have heard about this case," he said. "We are going to have to give the jury a strong warning to put aside anything that they may have heard and just concentrate on the evidence."

Investigators say it may also be hard for jurors to separate Daniel's death from Anna Nicole's.

Many blame Howard K. Stern for both Anna Nicole and Daniel's deaths, especially since rumors circulated saying they heard Smith blaming Stern for Daniel's death before a nurse was called.

Brad Delp's fiance speaks

Brad Delp's fiancé released this statement to the Globe regarding the Boston frontman's suicide.  Here's what Pamela Sullivan has to say:

On Christmas Day, 2006, Brad Delp asked me to marry him. Our wedding was to be on August 18th, marking seven years together. We shared a special bond that will be with me all my life. Bradley lived a private life, and I had hoped that his death might also be private.

But Bradley - his music and his heart - touched many lives, and we all feel the pain of his loss. For many, the loss of a beautiful voice, but more importantly, the loss of a beautiful person. We are all grieving.

In our grief, we look for answers, for reasons, and perhaps for blame. In the days that have passed since his death there has been a great deal of speculation and rumor put forward by the media and the Boston (band) fan base as to why he chose to end his life. Words have been taken out of context, statements have been misconstrued, and people have been hurt. People are looking for answers, and there are none to be had.

Bradley blamed no one, held no one accountable, for what was in his own heart. His music, his business, his relationships, these were the things that brought him joy. His sadness came from within; it was his own. He wanted no one to carry his burdens, in life or in death.

Bradley had the great gift of being able to love all and to understand all: his compassion for everyone he met was the essence of his soul. He would not want anyone to feel responsible for the path his life took.

I can only ask that we honor his memory, and his great legacy of compassion, and let him rest in the peace he so deserves, as we all begin to heal.

Brad Delp death plot included series of eerie suicide notes

Police in Atkinson, N.H. have released the contents on a series of suicide notes left by former Boston frontman, Brad Delp.

Delp trappped himself in his bathroom and killed himself with carbon monoxide poisoning.

The first note was taped on the door that leads from the garage into the house. It read: "To whoever finds this I have hopefully committed suicide. Plan B was to asphyxiate myself in my car."

Another note was attached to a door at the top of the stairs in which Delp warned that there was carbon monoxide inside. "I take complete and sole responsibility for my present situation. I have lost my desire to live," he wrote.

The note also included instructions on how to contact his fiancée, Pamela Sullivan, saying, "Unfortunately she is totally unaware of what I have done."

Delp even attached a note to his shirt that read: "Mr. Brad Delp. J'ai une ame solitaire. I am a lonely soul."

Police also found four sealed letters in Delp's home office addressed to Sullivan, his children, their mother, Micki Delp, and another couple whose identity was not disclosed. Police said they gave the letters to family members without reading them.

Brad Delp was cremated Wednesday after a private funeral earlier in the week.
