Michael Phelps: April 2007 Archives

The sexiest man in swimming Michael Phelps scored an unprecedented seventh gold metal at the World Swimming Championships in Melborne by breaking his own world record in the 400-meter invididual medley.

"I wanted to try to nail the last wall and just give it all I've got,'' Phelps, who recorded his fourth individual world-best time this week, told Australia's Nine Network. "I know that's my last race so I wanted to finish strong.''

Saturday, Phelps beat his sexy Australian counterpart Ian Thorpe's record of six gold metals from the 2001 championships held in Japan.  Thorpe is a self proclaimed gay icon, but insists he isn't gay at all.  Either way, he's hot too.

Michael Phelps lost the chance of becoming the first swimmer in history to win eight gold medals at a major meet because the U.S. was disqualified during the heats of the 4x100- meter medley relay. His tally of seven titles matched Mark Spitz's at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
