This is what happens when New York City's gay nightclub forces collide and join together. John Blair, Mistress Formika Jones and Alan Picus are joining forces to bring Avalon back as a nightclub.
Saturday nights in New York City clubbing is about to make a drastic change. Roxy had its last dance on Saturday closing the doors forever, but what happened at Rush (formerly known as Heaven)? The place was packed! This was simply foreshadowing of a new Saturday night alliance in New York City.
Starting March 31st, Avalon will bring together John Blair's Chelsea muscle boys, Formika's freaks and misfits with Alan Picus' twinks and party boys for the New Saturdays at Avalon. Can NYC handle it?
John Blair will take charge of the Main Floor, Formika will introduce the Strip Tease Chapel and Alan Picus will present Scandal in the Spiderclub.
Can I get an amen? I have pushed for major change for years, and this is exactly what I have been talking about. This superdome style party will put everything under one roof! One cover, one HUGE fuckin' party!!
Get ready, because this is only one of the many major changes you'll see this spring in the nightclub scene. All I can say now, is get ready to see gay socialites in places where you have never seen gay socialites before!
OMG! Another weekend in New York City without a John Blair party? What's a fag to do?!
According to his website, "As of today, Roxy has a 50/50 chance of reopening next Saturday, 11/18/06, with DJ PETER RAUHOFER. We expect to know for sure by Monday or Tuesday this coming week. We'll be posting news as we receive them here on the website. We're also looking at other locations where we could move the party to in case Roxy does not come through."
I love it how John Blair always just lays it all out on the table. You gotta respect the man's straight-forwardness. I never even have to call him for a statement. His website also says there will be no Sunday party this week either. This will be the second week for this hiatus as well since Happy Valley lost their lease.
So, what's a fag to do in New York City without John Blair? Don't jump faggot... here are my ideas...
1. Come see me at Heaven on Saturday. I know for some you this would be a total blast from the bast, but what a better time to do it.
2. Detox. No drugs, no smokes, all natural, raw veggie and fruits only. You gotta cleanse all those party drugs out eventually.
3. On Saturday, watch Saturday Night Live. When was the last time you watched a whole episode of SNL? The host this week is Alec Baldwin, maybe he'll talk about his brother stealing that car and pulling a "George Michael" as Anthony Lago would say.
4. Pig out. Snuggle up with Seamlessweb or Delivery.com and eat like you know you want it to. It feels great, trust me... I do it at least twice per week.
5. As strange as it might sound, if you've never watched Girls Next Door (the show about Playboy Heffner and his three girlfriends) then you MUST give it a try this Sunday at 10 on E! You'll fall in love with these girls. They're fabulous. And let me know if you think one is a dyke... Anthony and I have money riding on it.
6. Sleep. Its my favorite thing to do.
Make the most of your John Blair-less weekend. Do something you wouldn't normally do. Step outside the box. Have a great weekend!

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm constantly screaming for something NEW NEW NEW!!! I moved to New York for the glitz, the glamor, the hot parties! I've know for almost as long as I've been alive that I'd make the move from Dixie to the Big Apple, and I'm very vocal that I want my expectations met.
I want trend setting fashion, I want a loud sexy crowd, and I want unique new parties.. so of course, I want to be the first to tell you about some new events I've heard about for fall!
The summer season is always a great time for nightclubs and promoters to try new things especially in the gay scene. If you're just coming back for the fall semester, then I've got tons of changes to tell you about. If you plan on partying hard this fall, then keep reading and keep this as your nightlife survival guide.
If you've fallen in love with Sundays at Spirit, we've got some bad news for you! It's closed for good. Every cloud has a silver lining though, John Blair and Alan Picus are taking their Sunday night soiree back to Avalon.
They'll be taking this weekend off, and the new party starts one week from Sunday.
John Blair is no stranger to the former Limelight space. Back in 2001 we partied under the lights at Limelight to his Sunday night sea of Chelsea boys properly labeled, Drama. Then Blair moved his Drama party to Centro-Fly and announced "major renovations" for Limelight. In 2002, while remodeling the space; Blair and his colleages came under fire for working with nightclub villan, Marvisi. Marvisi is most popular for being Peter Gaiten's competition in the club kid days, and he isn't too well liked or respected in the nightclub community. However, before his fall his empire was nice... we could go on about him, but we'll save it for a different time.
Regardless Blair reopened Limelight as Estate turned Avalon as the "Managing Partner," often accused of being nothing more than Marvisi's figure-head. Blair publicly distanced himself from Marvisi saying the two weren't partners insisting Marvisi was simply the Promotional Director, there to boost straight party attendance.
In 2005, Blair announced he was leaving Avalon and moving to his one time competitor, Spirit. Police closed Spirit on Friday, August 25th for alcohol and drug violations. It will interesting to see how Mr. Blair will fit back into the Avalon picture, but you can guarantee its going to be exciting!
This could just be the boost that New York's gay nightlife scene has needed.
